Like many other business tools, how you use your business website depends on the results you get from it. There is another rule that applies, too: the results you get from it also depend on how often you use it. No doubt you have heard that many people and businesses have had a great deal of success using a website. You can, too, if you follow five basic guidelines.
- Look at it as a key to transform your business.
If you underestimate what your website can do, you will not do much with it. When you understand that it could be your ticket to greatly increasing your online traffic and sales, there is no telling how much of a boost it can give your business.
Instead of nonchalantly saying you have a business website, do some homework and study how to make it work. You need much more than just having a picture or two and some basic business information. When people conduct an online search, they want real information and tips about how to meet a specific need.
- Use the best keywords.
Online searches always start with keywords. Find out what keywords people will use who are looking to buy something to meet their needs and use them in your content. You also want a range of pertinent keywords so that the search engines will understand exactly what you are trying to sell.
- Post new information regularly.
Creating a constant flow of traffic to your website means that you must provide it with a constant flow of new information. The search engines seek to provide their users with the best and latest information, which means that if you want your webpage to show up on the first couple of pages of search results, that you need to post something new at least two times per week – three is better. These can be in the form of blog posts, articles, slideshows, videos, podcasts, and seminars.
- Promote new material on social media.
There are many different kinds of social media. Some are more popular among certain ages or people with certain types of interests. Find out where your customers are most likely to go and then post something there for everything you post on your webpage. Always put a link on each social media post to the new content on your website.
Whenever you have a sale or special promotion, be sure to post that on social media, too. Ordering your products or services should be easy to do. Be sure to have your contact information in plain sight, too.
- Get email addresses for instant contact.
Be sure to have some item on your website that your customers will want that is only available by giving you an email address. This can be an eBook, regular newsletter, video, book, mp3, or anything else your customers will be interested in. Your email list can give you a large list over time if you make the offer good. You can change it from time to time to get even more people on it.
An email list enables you to contact hundreds and thousands of people whenever you have a sale or special offer. This can help you double or triple – or more – if you keep following these simple guidelines.
A business website will not work if you have a “build it and they will come” attitude. Work it like it is a key part of your business and keep on learning how to improve and tune it for the best results. The Internet is always changing and you will have to put some time into it to get the best results – or you can outsource it, too.
